The egr is a valve that now adays is electronically actuated. The code probably refers to the electronic portion of the valve. I’m guessing the code is for the position sensor, either the sensor isn’t able to sense the position of the valve. It may even refer to the valves initial resting position or learned minimum voltage.

Crow, I'm just assuming the EGR is stuck open because the pipe from it to the air manifold gets hot from just 1 minute's idle. I would expect the value to only open once the engine got warm. 0-60 down to 27 secs and it can climb motorway hills now, but still poor acceleration for a new turbo on a 2.0.

by wheeler » Tue Nov 05, 2019 10:11 am. You could always use a can of wynns EGR3 spray for cleaning in situ. You just spray it in air intake & it also cleans the whole inlet track. 1073 posts · Joined 2012. #4 · Dec 19, 2016. I still get the P2173 code on the car. I tried to change the throttle body unit for another one, but that was totally useless. Normally I can drive for 10-15 minutes, and the code comes up again. This is what Iv'e been able to find about this fault code: 5008. 407 2.0HDi.

Your engine computer fails to see any voltage change as it attempts to open or close the EGR indicating it is stuck in one position. Codes P0490 EGR control circuit "A" means no high voltage change to indicate the EGR is opening or closing. P0489 is basically identical but it means circuit low as opposed to high.
